Competition Development (HP1) Cohort
Competition Development (HP1) candidates
Ontario Equestrian is excited to continue a training and certification opportunity for Competition Development (HP1) Olympic and non-Olympic discipline candidates this year!
Using a cohort working together in a virtual environment, candidates in the group will work together with an experienced team of Coach Developers, multisport facilitators and discipline experts, led by Ruth Allum (Master Coach Developer & HP1 Competition Development Coach) through training and mentoring to prepare for certification -and to complete the certification process for those candidates being evaluated. The cohort will kick off the training and mentoring process on Mar 10, 2025 and will work together through 2025, with one in-person live workshop in October at Ontario Equestrian's GRIT performance athlete training camp.
To attend the training cohort, candidates must have access to a computer or laptop (phones and tablets are not recommended) with high-speed internet, video camera, microphone, Microsoft Word or document editor and a gmail address for accessing google classroom.
Candidates may choose to complete the trained pathway for through the cohort - if not prepared to complete the evaluation in 2025, or may complete the certification, being evaluated through the term of the cohort.
Evaluation Requirements
Any coach is eligible to attend the training cohort, applicants who choose to also register for evaluation MUST have completed the following requirements.
Age (as of Jan 1, 2025) 22 years
Equestrian Canada Coach Status Minimum current EC Registered Coach Status
Candidates for evaluation must demonstrate at least two (2) years of coaching experience producing athletes competing at:
NCCP Make Ethical Decisions online evaluation Successfully completed through CAC Locker
Understanding the Rule of Two eLearning module Completed through CAC Locker
Access to a facility or environment for recording video Competitive rider(s), horse(s) at required performance level and facility or environment for recording video
Recommended Training prior to cohort Cohort candidates are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to take EC NCCP Design an Equestrian Sport Program prior to the cohort, offered online through the EC ECampus
The cohort will use Google Classroom for reference materials and document/video submission for candidates who register for evaluation. Cohort candidates must have a Gmail address to use for access to the Google Classroom.
Application
An application for all pathway options must be completed prior to commencing. Applications can be completed here and are subject to a $75 +hst application fee.
2025 Pathway options
1. Cohort – Training - $1,500 plus hst
Intended for coaches who may not be currently working with an athlete in the appropriate context and/or those primarily interested in their ongoing professional development.
2. Cohort – Training & Evaluation - $2,600 plus hst
Intended for coaches who are currently working with an athlete in the appropriate context. The coach portfolio is built over the course of the program and evaluated tasks are completed with multiple opportunities for re-submission through the cohort.
Additional Information
Evaluation Late fee – $500 plus hst.
For candidates who have selected option #2 – Cohort Training& Evaluation. If a candidate has not completed their evaluation by the time the next cohort begins, they will be charged this to complete the evaluation.
Re-Evaluations
If a candidate does not meet the minimum standard for an outcome related to the NCCP evaluation process, they must be re-evaluated for that outcome only. Re-evaluation must be completed within two (2) years of the original evaluation date. Additional re-evaluation fees will apply.
The deadline for applications for the 2025 cohort is February 10, 2025.
